Potty Training
So, I'm tired of all the poop and am attempting to potty train McKayla. So far, I am failing miserably. I bought her candy and pullups a few days ago. Then I tried putting her on the potty every 20 minutes or so. She managed to only go to the bathroom inbetween sitting on the potty. So, yesterday I went and bought underwear and decided that diapers/pullups would only be for sleeping. Well, yesterday she only went to the bathroom twice . . . stage fright? And both of those times were in a pullup in preparation for sleeping. Aaagh! So, today has been more exciting if nothing else. She peed on the bed, she peed on me, she pooped in her undies and peed in her pullup. She won't even attempt to go on the potty and she is above bribery. Help! Does anyone have any ideas to help me, 'cause I obviously missed the memo about how to successfully potty train your child.

Uggh, the dreaded potty training. Dun, dun, dun!!!
Well I know for Josh, I tried, but didn't push him because that just made things worse (for me anyways). It was mainly when HE wanted to do it.
Brad worked with him during a 4 day weekend/holiday - in July, and from that moment on he's been potty trained. So it was a good 3 months after he turned 3.
I've heard girls are easier than boys - but I have no clue. Maybe try again when it gets a little warmer, so she can be a neked bebe! I don't know. Sorry, I'm no help.
Are you using a little potty that sits on the floor or is she using the big potty. When I was potty training the twins that I nannyed I let my pick out the little seat that goes on the big toilet and then I really talked up being a big kid and going to the bath room like I do and what not. The first few days a rough but the more you talk it up and really show her that thats what big girls do then more she will want to.
Stick in there it will get easier!
I hope all goes well in the potty training department! We're still a little ways off from that with Katie :)
Your sister had a shout out for you on her blog so that is why I am here. When I potty trained my kids it was not an easy task but you will be so thankful you did it. I started out setting the timer every 5 minutes and would make it fun by racing to the bathroom to see who got there first...then after they went on the toilet I would set the timer ever 20 or 30 minutes. I was also pushing lots of fluid (you can get some juice boxes, we never used those so they were fun for the kids to drink...FYI hi-C is clear fluid so it won't stain) so they would have to go more often so we would have more success on the toilet since we were going so often. We made sticker charts together and would go to the store and I let them pick out whatever stickers they wanted. I also did a candy jar...one for trying, 2 for going potty, and 3 for going poop. With both my kids it was about a weeks time before I felt like they were potty trained...I still took them places in a pull up (just in case we had an accident) but the pooping...a whole other issue! For my son I bought little cars and put them in a bowl, when he went poop on the toilet he got to pick a new car...it seemed to work with him.
Keep in mind that every child is different. She might not be ready. I trained my daughter at 18 months but my son was almost 3 before he was ready!
Good luck! You will be so happy once she is trained it will be like a new day! One day you will wake up and you won't even know how it happened, she will just be ready. Something clicks with them and they just start "getting" it.
I bare bummed it. I would put Emma in a dress, so I wouldn't have to look at her being naked, but didn't put anything like a pull-up, or panies on her. I cleaned up 2 accidents before she really realized that she had NOTHING to go in, so she'd run to the potty. I couldn't ask, or force her to sit there because then she wanted NOTHING to do with it. It had to be her choice and her idea to be on the toilet and then she would go. I did reward for going and I'd give her more for going pooh. It took along time for her to stay dry during naps, and bedtime. I would put a diaper or pull-ups on her at those times and sometimes those were the only times she'd go, but I considered it a success because at least she could control herself the rest of the time. It's SO frustrating, especially to learn your child and what they need, but hang in there!! It just takes TIME before she'll be potty trained. I know the accidents are so annoying to clean up, but they are worth it in the end. GOOD LUCK!!!!
Your sister Carrie asked for advice on potty training and I thought I would share anything that I know.. it is such a hard process that takes so much patience!
We potty trained our daughter right before her 3rd birthday and her biggest issue was why go in the bathroom in the potty when it is so much more convenient to go in the diaper. I went out and got a basket full of goodies (dollar store) and every time she would go in the potty she would get one. That worked for her for pee, but she would refuse to poop in the potty -until I finally found the ultimate price, a princess carriage (and we don't normally just buy toys to just buy them...so it was special) and every time she would poop in the potty she could play with it....every time she didn't I got to play with it and I never "got" to play with it...that is how bad she wanted it.
I have also heard big success stories with The Potty Party idea...you can look it up online. It seems like a good idea.
I also suggest if you are going to potty train go 100%, don't put her in pullups or diapers during the day. Make it a huge deal to have "princess panties" and she doesn't want to get them dirty (or whatever she may like)
Either way good luck, just know that she won't be peeing her pants when she is in highschool....that should give you hope!!!
Oh, I wish I had wisdom to give you, but even after my first three, I'm not an expert. Kate has been at it a week, and we have peeing down, but not pooping. She has yet to poop in the toilet. Thanks for asking for advice though, I'm learning alot! Good luck, and if you find anything that works, let me know.
Hi Jill! All my kids were different in the potty training area. Brigham was one that was above both treats and punishment. One day Ben suggested the potty dance so I tried it. Brigham loved it and was soon running to the potty just to see me make a fool of myself doing the potty dance if he went. Just make up any loud silly song and dance the sillier the better. Hope it helps! Good Luck!
